Animal Based Charities and Cat Crusaders have teamed up for our 2nd Annual DOGTOBERFEST. 

Time is Running out for Rescue Groups to sign up for this terrific event which takes place on

Saturday October 29th from 10 am to 2 pm at the Center Court of Wiregrass Mall, 28211 Paseo Drive

(in Wesley Chapel, on the east side of Bruce B. Downs Blvd – Hwy 581, and the north side of Florida State Route 56)

 

Dress up your “best friend“ to participate in the pet costume contest and parade.  All pets entered in the contest will win and be rewarded!

Spaces are assigned based upon receipt of documents, so get them in as soon as you can.

THIS ABC – CAT CRUSADERS EVENT IS FREE TO ALL RESCUE GROUPS.

There will be a Live Band,  the “Parade,”  Face Painters, Balloon Artists,  30+ rescue groups with adoptable animals,  and pet-related product vendors.

 

For those of you not familiar with the Shops at Wiregrass, it is an outdoor mall, with an old-fashioned main street down the center, which we shut down for “Dogtoberfest.”

Last year, 50+ rescues and vendors came together for the day to promote adoptions. Our activities will be focused on the Center Court which includes a center stage area.

Last year, 23,000 + cars were counted in the parking lots of Wiregrass for the day. We’re expecting this year to be even bigger.

Sasha was a hurricane Katrina rescue.  It was no surprise when she displayed separation anxiety or fear of thunder storms.  Eventually, she ceased to have either.  After about 4 years at the sanctuary, she was adopted by a wonderful women who lost her own dog to a police bullet.  It is a wonderful match.
 
Scooby is still available.  He is very loving and knows commands.  He is not for someone with cats.  Scooby drools at the site of cats.  He is so gentle otherwise.  Scooby needs someone who will walk him on a leash.  He likes to climb over fences.  Runs around then comes back to the gate looking as you as if to say “OK, now you let me in!”  He is house broken and gets along well with people and other dogs.  Wouldn’t you like to take Scooby home?

Star did not start her life in a good place.  She was beaten regularly and kicked.  She was removed from her environment and a careing person asked us to take her.  She didn’t stay long!  Mary and Donnie provided her with a loving home on a farm.  She has cows to follow, special children to play with a tiny alpha dog to watch over her.  Life is good!

Rebel was an old retired hunting dog.  He was Katies daddy.  So very, very old when he came to the sanctuary!  He would stagger as he walked unless of course he saw some young female in the yard.  At the sight of that, he could actually break into a slow run!  His favorite place at the sanctuary was the hall closet.  He would just take some things off the shelf and make himself comfortable.  We didn’t have Rebel, better know as Grandpa, very long but it was long enough to understand what a special creature this old guy was.  The old ones all have a history that creates a unique individual.  He will be missed for years to come.  His memory brings a smile to your lips.

Noah came to the sanctuary when his elderly owner could no longer care for him.  He didn’t stay long!  He has a Beagle and Basset heritage.  He would bay with the slightest opportunity.  His new Mom says he is also very curious and escapes sometimes.  She is constantly on guard for his next adventure!  Everyone in the neighborhood knows him and watches out for him when he takes some unknown opportunity to exploure.  He has a very, very caring Mom.  Two in one lifetime!  What a fortunate fellow.

I’m Lily Pad.  A tad elderly for a pit but still spry.  I play with the young residents and beg for treats.  I love treats!  Its fun to lay in a pile of dirt in the sun.  It warms your bones.  My bones are old and need warmth.  I’d love to have my very own bed.  One that I didn’t have to share.  Won’t you sponsor me?

Katie is a retired hunting dog.  When her human daddy died, mom said “no more hunting” and sent Katie to the sanctuary.  She is very old and full of tumors.  There is nothing to be done but palitive care.  Katie enjoys the out of doors.  She still follows trails.  She is a very sweet gal.  Her back legs are getting weak and she is slowing down but still enjoying life.  Won’t you sponsor her?

JJ was rescued from Texas and abuse by a caring person.  Hot grease had been thrown at JJ.  Scars are still visible on his back.  Unfortunately, JJ snapped and marked everything in site.  Very hyper.  He was unable to stay with the original good samaritan. 
 
JJ no longer snaps and bites.  He is a very loving little guy.  He wants to please.  At night, he wraps himself up in a blanket.  When outside, he runs the property like the “Road Runner” of cartoon fame.  He still marks but not so much.  We believe if he had his own forever home, where he could go out often, he would not mark.  JJ is so special.  He has been through so much and only wants love and attention.  Won’t you give him a chance?

Jenny was a terrier mix.  She had seizures and but still was adopted by a kind vet tech by the name of Cheryl.  Cheryl saw how special Jenny was.  She provided her with love and care during the final years of her life.  Jenny lived at the sanctuary for about 5 years before her special person came along.

I’m Gwenovere.  A hurricane Katrina survivor.  I wasn’t too friendly when I first came to Florida.  I hurt because of a huge hernia.  The vet said my uterias was inside.  Now I am very friendly.  I love to be held.  I’m no spring chicken.  I’m getting cateracts, my teeth are getting bad and my back legs have arthritis.  Did I mention I’m extremely bow legged?  I do tricks.  I do handstands when I pee. 
 
I’m looking for a senior lap.  Just a quiet place to curl up and go to sleep.  A gentle place to spend the rest of my days.   Do you have my lap?
